It is different from hardware maintenance due to the fact that software does not experience any physical wear and tear, but generally it's usefulness depreciates over time. In almost all cases, software is delivered and implemented with hidden flaws. On average, the cost of application software maintenance is greater than half of the overall systems' life cycle cost.

The webinar does a great job of presenting many of the challenges faced in the outsourced vendor buyer -relationship and discusses traditional techniques (SLA's, extreme process focus) currently used by many parties. This is followed by a deeper dive of the improvements afforded by leveraging Application Quality measurement techniques.
